From Honjozo to Sangiovese : Welcome to Tonino

Curated by Claire Makley

Deliveries begin July 10th

Small, thoughtfully run restaurants, like Tonino in Jamaica Plain, play a vital role in the culinary landscape. These neighborhood gems deserve our attention and support. Tonino's unique approach of pairing sake with their Italian fare exemplifies the importance of showcasing these lesser-known dining experiences. Restaurants like Tonino bring a breath of fresh air to the Boston dining scene. Their personal touch offers and a unique perspective that larger establishments simply cannot.

This month we spoke with Claire Makley about her favorite wines and what it’s like to run her cozy space nestled in the heart of JP. Formerly the general manager of Hojoko and an opening partner of The Koji Club, she also talks about her love of sake. She even curated a 3-pack for you so be sure to include it in your bundle this month and see just how much there is to love about sake. Cheers!

  • Cantine Gulino, Pretiosa -Tomato leaf, silky smooth, so luxe. This wine is a romantic walk through the garden after a rainshower. Enough said. Pair with Tonino's Eggplant Caponata.
  • Valle dell'Acate, Zagra Grillo -Briny, sharp, made for cheese. Bracing acidity with a nutty finish. Time to break out your cheese boards! Pair with Tonino's Roasted Squid Salad.
  • La Valentina, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo -Ripe plum, black cherry, dark chocolate. Lush & spicy. This cocoa-filled Montepulciano is absolutely lovely. Pair with Tonino's Roasted Mushroom Lumache.
  • Paitin, Starda Langhe Nebbiolo -Fresh, textured, full of blackberries. Red currants, Bing cherries, & fresh tobacco inside a cedar box. Love this wine. Pair with Tonino's Pepperoni Pizza with Hot Honey.
