Kate began her career as a teacher. But like many of us in the industry, she kept her second job as a server at MIDA. After a while she realized she was more interested in food and wine than being in a classroom. In 2018 she transitioned into managing full-time. Now she runs the wine program at MIDA.
In Italian MIDA means, he gives to me. What Chef Douglass Williams and Kate Martino have given to their community is a warm, welcoming space to gather and share a meal. This month handed the mic over to Kate. She talks about her amazing staff and working for Chef Douglass Williams, who was recently named by Food & Wine as one of the top 10 Best New Chefs in America. We know you'll enjoy what she has to say and absolutely love the wines she chose for the July box.
T H E W I N E S
Tiberio, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo– This wine is so suave. It's clean and savory with acid that makes you pucker and prickly heat that lingers on the finish. Pairings: MIDA's Gnocchi Cacio e Pepe
Le Fraghe, Rōdon Rosé – So uplifiting! It's full of glassy, clear-cut salinity with notes of white tea and Coppertone. Pairings: Taleggio, MIDA's Gem Insalata
Kepos Toscano Rosso–Lean, meaty, and a little spicy. White pepper, Cranberry sauce, lots of ripe cherry, and tightly drawn tannins. Pairing: MIDA's bucatini all'amatriciana
Cantine Rao, "Silva Nigra" – What a powerhouse! It's all about thyme, tobacco, and tannins that take hold and fade slowly. Pairing: MIDA's Paccheri Bolognese
