Whats New on the West Coast: A Chat With Our Very Own California Girl

INSIDE UPPER GLASS

*DELIVERIES BEGIN APRIL 7TH*

As the author of the Upper Glass editorial content, I find it a tad strange to be introducing myself so late in the game. I'm quite content behind the scenes, and certainly most of you are used to corresponding with Jyoti. But this April it was decided that I should curate the box and talk to you about some of the "New California" wines we've recently come across.

So here we go! This month I'm telling you a little about myself, how I got into wine, and my love/like relationship with California wines (I kid... sort of).

In addition to giving you some fun add-ons this month, I'm hoping to schedule a Zoom tasting with you all at the end of the month with one of your April wines. So stay tuned!

  • Land of Saints, Chardonnay–  Light and Zippy. Razor sharp acidity and a little salty. A CA Chardonnay I can be friends with.  Put a call into Sweet Cheeks and order a Po' Boy and Coleslaw.
  • Birichino, Vin Gris – Delicate & Pretty. White chocolate & Chupa Chups. So lovely and dry. Provence by way of Santa Cruz. Go sit on the patio and UNI and order some Fatty Tuna.
  • Matthiasson, Tendu, Red – Meaty & Charming. My kinda blend. Snappy fruit, easy-going tannins, and full of savory goodness.  A Meatball & Ricotta Pizza is the only pairing I'm considering.
  • Folk Machine, Parts & Labor – Rustic & full of Pomegranate. Clove, a little dirt, lots of plums. I love wine that tastes like the earth. Lamb Shank from Taberna de Haro would be perfect with this!

  • Gail Wines, Doris Cabernet Sauvignon - Sonoma Valley, California - Full bodied & Memorable. Full of black currants, dark chocolate shavings, and a little eucalyptus at the end. This is a streamlined Cabernet Sauvignon you'll find yourself going back to again and again.
  • Forlorn Hope, Queen of the Sierra, Red Blend - Sierra Foothilla AVA - Calaveras County, California -   Full Body, Enticing - Look no further than this wine if you like fruit forward, fresh reds with a bit of structure. Perfect for summer. Dynamic and fun, this wine has great tension with its ripe fruit, supple tannins, and lively acidity.
